Mughal kings were fond of using jewellery, and English travellers note the lavish use of jewellery at court. Under the Mughals the art of setting stones in precious metal attained a peak of perfection. Some ornaments still in use today, such as the jhumka and the tikli, may be traced to the Mughals whose miniature paintings often show the use of these ornaments.
